One more try? Duterte believes Mar Roxas will run again for president, assures Sara won’t challenge him
President Rodrigo Duterte believes former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas will run for president again despite losing against him in 2016.
In a speech in Boracay Thursday (November 8), Duterte assured Roxas that he could run for president for the second time since his daughter, Davao City mayor Sara Duterte, has no ambition for the position.
“Ito namang si Inday, huwag kayong maniwala kay Inday, presidente-presidente. Sabihin mo kay Roxas hindi ‘yan. Tatakbo siguro ‘yan si Roxas uli eh,” he said during the distribution of certificates of land ownership awards (CLOA) to indigenous peoples in Boracay.
Duterte said Sara has no plans of becoming president even if she has her own political party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago.
“Si Inday, huwag kayong maniwalang tatakbo ng presidente. Hindi ‘yan mag-aaksaya ng panahon,” he said.
Sara is widely seen as a politiko to watch for because of the power she has been wielding in the past few years, which proved enough to unseat Davao Del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez as House Speaker last July.
Roxas, meanwhile, is running for senator in 2019.
