One step closer to Secretary: Duterte names Año DILG OIC
Former Armed Forces chief of Staff Eduardo Año became one step closer to becoming the Secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government after President Rodrigo Duterte named him the agency’s officer in charge (OIC).
Año’s appointment comes as OIC comes at the heels of Duterte’s selection of incumbent DILG OIC Undersecretary Catalino Cuy as the new chairman of the Dangerous Drugs Board.
In a memorandum dated January 4, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said Año is appointed as OIC upon Duterte’s instructions and to “ensure the continuous and effective delivery of public service.”
Duterte appointed Año as DILG Undersecretary in October 2017, the month he retired from the military upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56.
The President, however, said Año will have to wait until he becomes Interior Secretary because of a law banning the appointment of a former military official to the DILG within a year.
