Oops, he did it again! Duterte breaks vow not to talk about God
President Rodrigo Duterte talked about God again a day after promising not to make statements about the Christian faith.
In a speech at the National Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Summit Tuesday (July 10) in Pampanga, Duterte warned his critics not to drag God in attacks against him.
“You are a Filipino, fine. But do not ever, ever include God in your platform to attack me. You know why? There is whale of difference when it comes to governance. There is a separation of power between any church and state,” he said.
“Huwag mong isali ang Diyos mo doon sa platform of your criticism on your attacks because when I answer, pagka isinali mo sa issue — isinali mo ang Diyos, p****** i** patay ‘yang Diyos na ‘yan,” he added.
Duterte said the God he believes in is forgiving, not disrespectful and does not curse.
“As a matter of fact, ang Diyos ko walang sinasabi except the 10 Commandments. Wala, wala siyang… And then when you use God to say that I’ll go to hell. You know my God never created hell. Because if He created hell, He must be stupid God,” he said.
Duterte said he does not believe in heaven and hell.
“My God is not stupid to create man just to burn him to — in hell. Hindi ako naniniwala ng ganun eh. I do not believe in heaven. Because if I do, only a fraction of you in this crowd will ever enter heaven. All of us,” he said.
Duterte made the statement after he vowed not to make statements about the Catholic Church following his meeting with Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines president Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles.
The President sought the dialogue with Valles after he drew flak for calling God “stupid” and questioning some of the doctrine taught by the Catholic Church, such as the stories of creation and original sin.
In his speech in Pampanga, Duterte reiterated his challenge for anyone to show a selfie with God and he will resign immediately.
“I-selfie mo lang ang Diyos, kayong dalawa ipakita mo sa akin, ‘Ito ‘yung Diyos.’ Pagbaba ko sa hagdanan na ito, consider me resigned from the Office of the President. Iyan ang sabihin ko sa Pilipino,” he said.
