It’s over for Orbos! Ex-Army general Danny Lim to head MMDA
Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Thomas “Tim” Orbos is on his way out, eight months after assuming office.
President Rodrigo Duterte is set to appoint retired brigadier general Danilo “Danny” Lim as the new head of MMDA soon, Politiko has learned.
According to Politiko’s source, Duterte decided to replace Orbos because he was dismayed by the MMDA chairman’s performance.
The President even told local politikos at a recent meeting that Orbos was incapable of solving the problems that have been affecting Metro Manila for years, such as the horrible traffic jams.
“Hindi niya talaga kaya,” Duterte said of Orbos.
Lim, a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Makatarungan” Class of 1978, was jailed from 2006 to 2010 for rebellion charges and attempted coup d’ etat.
He was among the members of the Magdalo group, together with former soldier Antonio Trillanes IV, who staged the Manila Peninsula siege in 2007.
He ran for the Senate in 2010 but lost.
Lim was eventually appointed by then-President Benigno Aquino III as Deputy Commissioner of the Bureau of Customs but he resigned in July 2013.
