Ouch! UST students to pay add’l P3K per sem with new tuition hike
Parents of students of the University of Santo Tomas will have to shell out close to P3,000 per semester when School Year 2017-2018 starts under the tuition increase proposed by school authorities.
According to The Varsitarian, UST’s official student paper, the tuition fee hike for first to fourth year students amounts to P138 per unit, P135 per unit for fifth year students, P232 per unit for Civil Law students, P206 per unit for those in graduate school, and P252 per unit for students under the doctorate programs.
The 10-percent increase in tuition translates to an additional P2,898 payment per semester for a student with a 21-unit load.
UST Rector Fr. Herminio Dagohoy, O.P. told The Varsitarian that the raise in tuition fee will be used to pay its faculty and maintain school facilities.
He said increasing the tuition fee was “necessary” to enable UST to maintain the quality of its education amid tight competition for students.
