Pacquiao chooses Sotto over Pimentel as Senate chief
Senator Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao admitted that he had already “chosen” Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III over his party mate and party leader, Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III as the new upper chamber leader.
Pacquiao practically confirmed the “decision” reached by colleagues in the majority bloc in backing up Sotto’s assumption as per supposedly agreed upon, as part of the “power-sharing” set-up when the Senate presidency was “offered” to Pimentel in July 2016.
“(Ang) SP (senate president) ko si Sotto, (ng) majority (bloc). Busy na rin naman si Koko (Pimentel) kasi mangampanya na (sya), ” Pacquiao said when asked on the impending leadership change.
The senator even claimed that he “requested” Sen. Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri to be elected as Sotto’s replacement.
“Ni-request ko si Migz (as majority leader). Hindi ko alam (sino pa nag-request) basta nag-request ako na si Migz (majority leader) para naman may representative kami from Mindanao,” he said.
Pacquiao is currently a member of the ruling PDP-Laban where Pimentel is the party president.
Pimentel is due to seek re-election in the coming 2019 midterm elections.
