Pacquiao to Freddie Roach on missing paycheck: Hindi ka nag-iisa
Freddie Roach, you’re not alone.
Senator Manny Pacquiao on Wednesday claimed that just like his world-famous trainer, he has yet to receive his P500 million “pay check” from his recent boxing bout with Australian Jeff Horn where he lost his welterweight world title.
“My purse has not yet been released by (Bob) Arum,” Pacquiao said in a text message to reporters, referring to his promoter as well as founder and CEO of Top Rank, a professional boxing promotion company based in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao issued the statement in response to reports that the senator has not yet paid Roach for his services nearly two weeks after the July 2 Brisbane brawl.
Pacquiao, however, clarified that he has no issue against Roach but he stressed that he was not responsible for his trainer’s paycheck.
“I’m not the one paying him. It’s Bob Arum. The trainer’s fee is automatically deducted by the Top Rank from my purse. So if Coach Freddie has not yet received his payment, we are on the same boat,” the senator said.
Roach said that Pacquiao barely spoke to him after the said boxing match held at Suncorp Stadium, noting that the senator would not even say two words or even look him in the eye.
