Pakialamero! Noynoy accused of halting prosecution in Dacer-Corbito case
Former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III has been accused of throwing a monkey wrench into the prosecution of those accused in the 2000 double murder of publicist Salvador “Bubby” Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito.
Lawyer Ferdinand Topacio, the counsel of Police Senior Superintendent Cezar Mancao, pointed out that the Solicitor General was supposed to appeal the acquittal of Senator Panfilo Lacson and others accused including former Sr. Supt. Michael Ray Aquino.
However, Topacio claimed that “after the Aquino Administration was installed, it refused to prosecute the accused in the said criminal case by ordering the then Solicitor-General to refrain and desist from appealing the case to the Supreme Court.”
“It was not on the merits, but because of the Aquino Administration’s desire to pay its political debts to Mr. Lacson, that the State stopped prosecuting the said twin murders,” he said.
The lawyer lamented that Mancao became the only accused being prosecuted even though he was initially the star witness in the case.
