Malacañang on Wednesday thanked the Senate for the passage of the Universal Health Care bill.
“The prioritization of the Universal Health Care Bill bespeaks of the Duterte Administration’s unrelenting commitment to provide the marginalized and disadvantaged with sufficient and better health care services,” Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque Jr. said.
Roque called the passage of Senate Bill No. (SBN) 1896 or the Universal Health Care for All Filipinos Act as “groundbreaking,” saying “beneficiaries will be entitled to health coverage simply by virtue of their cotizenship as Filipinos.”
Once signed into law, the measure will provide all Filipino citizens an insurance coverage under the PhilHealth program.
The House of Representatives passed its version of the measure, House Bill No. (HBN) 5784 in 2017.
SBN 1896 and HBN 5784 now await action by the bicameral conference committee.
