Pang-asar! Palace hails De Lima’s 1st year of detention: She’s ‘living symbol’ of PH as narco-state
Malacañang has found the perfect opportunity to deride Senator Leila de Lima anew on the occasion of her first year in jail.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque on Saturday (February 24) greeted De Lima a “happy anniversary” for spending one year in detention at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame.
He said De Lima’s detention shows the criminal justice system in the Philippines “is alive, effective and working.”
“Senator De Lima has been detained because of drug charges. She is a living symbol that the Philippines has become a narco-state with her election in office funded by drugs. She is the mother of all drug lords by allowing the illegal drug trade to proliferate inside the National Bilibid Prison when she was the Department of Justice Secretary,” Roque said.
De Lima was arrested on February 24 last year for her alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison. She has denied the charges.
With De Lima’s case pending in court, Roque urged the public to let the legal process proceed and “refrain from influencing” their outcome.
