Para di matulad kay Obama? Trump won’t discuss war on drugs with Duterte- Palace
It’s unlikely for United States President Donald Trump to discuss the bloody war on drugs with President Rodrigo Duterte when they hold a bilateral meeting in Manila on November 13, Malacañang said.
Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque on Saturday (November 11) said Duterte has been clear that he will refuse talks on any domestic issue, such as the government’s campaign against illegal drugs.
“Now, having said that, I’m confident that President Trump, having endorsed Duterte’s war on drugs, will also see no necessity in bringing it up,” he said at a press conference at the sidelines of the APEC Summit in Da Nang, Vietnam.
Duterte earlier said he will advise Trump to “lay off” should the American President attempt to discuss the war on drugs with him.
The President has been sensitive to the US’ criticism of the drug war. In 2016, he called then-US President Barack Obama a “son of a whore” because of reports that the latter might bring up the topic of human rights in their meeting.
The bilateral meeting between Duterte and Obama in Laos was eventually cancelled.
Roque said among the topics that Duterte and Trump might discuss in their bilateral meeting are the nuclear crisis in North Korea and the maritime row in the South China Sea.
