Gordon proposes creation of ‘Libingan ng mga Pangulo’
Senator Richard ‘Dick’ Gordon on Friday (August 12) called for the creation of the ‘Libingan ng mga Pangulo’ where former presidents can be laid to rest sans any hullabaloo from different sectors of society.
“We will all have something to say about our country’s Presidents. Good and bad. They are all part and parcel of our history and make up who we are now as a people. We cannot change our past,” said Gordon on his official Facebook page.
“We can only pray and work hard to make sure that our future becomes a just reflection of a people made better by all the lessons our past sought to teach us. It is now time to set aside our differences. And set aside government land for a LIBINGAN NG MGA PANGULO. Let us be bigger than our past. And let our actions speak louder together as Filipinos,” he added.
Gordon made the statement amid public outcry over the planned burial of former President Ferdinand Marcos, Sr. next month in the ‘Libingan ng mga Bayani’ upon the approval of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Martial Law victims and other politicians who helped topple the Marcos dictatorship have expressed strong opposition to such move but their sentiments only landed on deaf ears as the president stood firm on his decision.
