Para sa bayan! Duterte urges boy scouts to be soldiers
President Rodrigo Duterte has called on young boys to consider becoming a soldier when they grow up, saying he needs young men willing to defend the country.
Speaking before members of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines in Malacanang Monday (April 3), Duterte said he needs more soldiers who will use military equipment.
“Kailangan ko ng sundalo, paglaki. Hindi naman lahat pero baka gusto ninyo. Piloto, kailangan ko ng estudyante sa PMA. Kasi marami na akong eroplano wala akong piloto. Marami akong barko sa Navy wala namang mag-Navy kasi dito tinanggal nila…,” he said.
A comical moment followed as Duterte asked the young boys if they are willing to become soldiers.
“Ready kayo? Ay sagot anak ng… ,” he remarked.
When he reiterated the question, he was met by a resounding “opo” from his young crowd.
Duterte said he expects the young boys to make good on their reply.
“Asahan ko ‘yang mag-sundalo kayo, mag-ROTC (Reserved Officers Training Corps) kayo. At always love your country. Alam mo bakit? Isa lang ang bayan natin wala ng iba,” he said.
