Para walang masabi: Here’s why Fariñas wants plunder punishable by death
House Majority Leader Rudy Fariñas totally supports the inclusion of plunder as a heinous crime in the bill that seeks to restore death penalty in the Philippines.
Speaking to House media Wednesday (December 7), Fariñas said that adding plunder to the list of crimes punishable by death would prove to the public that politikos aren’t out to insulate themselves from the death penalty bill.
Fariñas gave this remark following a caucus with Majority members the same day, which he presided over.
“I also gave them yung sinasabi niyo na if we limit [death penalty] to drugs, wala yung plunder, sasabihin naman nila, sino ba nagko-commit ng plunder kung hindi tayong mga in office, so i-consider din natin na ilagay yung plunder.
“Para hindi masabi na pinoproteksyunan namin mga kauri namin or sarili namin,” Farinas said.
Aside from plunder, some 20 other heinous crimes are listed in the substitute bill that was passed by the House Justice Committee.
