Parang baliktad: Duterte asks media to ‘never lie,’ tells PCOO to uphold truth at all times
President Rodrigo Duterte has advised the media to refrain from lying because the government–supposedly– doesn’t.
In a speech at the relaunch of the refurbished press briefing room at the New Executive Building (NEB) in Malacañang grounds on Thursday (October 12), Duterte said the media should never confuse its search for answers and need for public engagement with “sensationalized news and over publicized political propaganda.”
“I call on our friends from the media to also remain committed to the truth at all times. Never, never lie because we are not up to it anyway,” he said.
Duterte likewise called officials of the Presidential Communications Operations Office to uphold the truth “at all times.”
“Never exaggerate, never misinterpret [and] never agitate as you communicate our platform of governance. In other words, do not be arrogant,” he said.
Duterte has repeatedly accused some media outfits of being biased against him.
The PCOO, however, has drawn flak over its gaffes, such as fake news and plagiarized photos found in the Philippine News Agency’s website.
