Parang walang nagbago: Alvarez unhappy with how Tugade is running DOTr
Has change come to the Department of Transportation? House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez sure doesn’t think so.
Alvarez on Friday expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of DOTr officials, saying he has yet to see improvements in the public services they provide since the Duterte administration started.
In an interview with reporters after DOTr’s budget briefing Friday (Sept. 9), Alvarez admitted he wasn’t satisfied with the answers given to him by Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade and other officials regarding his concerns.
When asked if he is satisfied with the qualifications of DOTr officials, the Speaker said: “Hindi naman sa ganun, maaaring siguro hindi ako satisfied dun sa naging performance so far. Kasi dapat, first 100 days, as far as the Department of Transportation is concerned, dapat ay marami na tayong nararamdaman na pagbabago.”
Alvarez, who served as transportation secretary under the Arroyo administration, lamented that some of the problems which persisted before President Rodrigo Duterte came into power still remain close to three months after his term started.
“Yung problema sa lisensya, plaka, yung problema sa OR/CR (official receipt and certificate of registration). Bibili ka ng sasakyan kahit brand new mag-aantay ka. Three months na wala pa [sa] Metro Manila ha,” he said.
Given the urgency of these concerns, Alvarez remarked that they should have been addressed “yesterday.”
He said the immediate problems hounding the transportation sector such as the provision of OR/CR and vehicle license plates should be resolved with dispatch by the DOTr.
“Yung mga immediate concern, kagaya nung OR/CR, kagaya nung lisensya—walang mga kaso yan. Pwede na kaagad i-address yung mga problemang ‘yun,” Alvarez said.
