PCSO gives PNP P154M cut from STL but police still beholden to gambling lords -Balutan
Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office General Manager Alexander Balutan thinks the Philippine National Police (PNP) is not doing enough to justify its monthly share from earnings of small town lottery (STL).
Balutan said the PNP has received P154 million representing its 2.5 percent monthly cut from STL since the PCSO initiated reforms in the franchise areas last year but the police have not their jobs in cracking down on gambling lords sabotaging the state-run franchises.
Balutan said the illegal numbers game remained rampant in some areas because some local police officials allegedly continue to receive payolas from gambling lords running illegal numbers games such as jueteng and masiao.
“I had hoped that the PNP would stand true to their oath to implement President Rodrigo Duterte’s Executive Order No. 13. Ang nangyayari, ‘yung maliliit lang gaya ng bet collector ang hinuhuli nila at hindi ang mga malalaking isda gaya ng illegal gambling financier,” Balutan said.
“We sincerely tried to involve them in what we believe will serve the people. Instead, they have chosen to serve crime lords,” said Balutan who spent 33 years in military and where he earned the moniker “Mandirigma.”
