PDP-Laban stalwarts in Mindanao can’t stand Alvarez: He’s a fake who lacks moral ascendancy

Aug 26, 2017 @ 13:25

Over 200 members of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) have declared House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez persona non grata for supposedly lacking “moral ascendancy.”

Cesar Cuntapay, the party’s interim regional council president for Southern Mindanao, said the PDP-Laban members met in Tagum City on August 24 to discuss Alvarez’s leadership and the party’s state.

One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the passage of four resolutions. One sought to stop Alvarez from conducting mass oath-takings without applicants undergoing the requisite Basic Membership Seminar.

Another resolution called for the declaration of the Speaker as “persona non grata.”

Cuntapay, who was removed by Alvarez from his post, called the Speaker “utterly detestable” because he did not consult with his colleagues regarding his actions.

“Alvarez is a fake secretary general,” he said.

The third resolution called on the party president, Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III, to hold a PDP-Laban summit in November.

In light of the infighting between party members, the fourth resolution called for the unification and strengthening of PDP-Laban’s Mindanao bloc.
