Perfect choice! JV Ejercito, Legarda hail Locsin’s appointment as DFA Secretary
With his vast experience, Ambassador Teddy Boy Locsin, Jr. is “fit for the job” of becoming the next Secretary of Department of Foreign Affairs.
Senator Loren Legarda stressed this on Friday following Locsin’s appointment as the new DFA chief by President Rodrigo Duterte.
DFA Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano has decided to leave his post as he expressed desire to run as congressman for Taguig City in the 2019 midtern elections.
“He is fit for the job, honed by his long years of experience in public service, both as a journalist and a public official,” Legarda said.
Sen. JV Ejercito said the DFA will “certainly benefit from his long experience in public service and his brilliance.”
“As our country navigates a world facing trade wars, the resurgence of protectionism, violent extremism, transnational crimes and territorial disputes, I am confident that he can ably represent the interests of the Filipino people before the international community,” Ejercito said.
A lawyer by profession and worked with various Philippine Presidents, Legarda said that Locsin “has vast knowledge of national and local issues surrounding the country and how the dynamics of world politics affect our nation.”
“His stint as Philippine Permanent Representative to the United Nations seemed to have foreshadowed his appointment as the country’s top diplomat,” she said.
“I am certain he will not waver in protecting our people and our nation’s interests,” Legarda said.
“As Chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, I will work with him in advancing the Philippines’ diplomatic relations with other nations and upholding the four pillars of Philippine foreign policy,” she added.
Ejercito added, “The global challenges that we face are indeed formidable but so is our incoming Foreign Affairs chief.”
“I extend my congratulations to Secretary Locsin and President Duterte for making an exceptional appointment,” he said.
