Pimentel opposes 2 Senate panels probing Duterte wealth
Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III is lukewarm to the proposal to have two Senate panels look into the alleged unexplained wealth of President Duterte as petitioned by Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV.
Pimentel noted that Trillanes’ resolution on Duterte on the President’s and First Daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio’s alleged undisclosed bank transactions, had already been referred to the blue ribbon committee chaired by Sen. Richard Gordon.
The committee on banks, financial institutions and currencies chaired by Sen. Francis Escudero had been made secondary committee.
“But it doesn’t mean the secondary committee cannot hear it on its own. It’s judgment call of the chairman. We will not force the chairman. Kasi lalo na kung naghearing si blue ribbon, nag-attend si committee on banks (chair), pina-attend din, ninonotify sila, bakit pa niya isi-split ang isang hearing, eh limited ang time,” Pimentel said.
But it’s up to Escudero if he will agree to the proposition of Trillanes, if the latter will make the proper coordination, Pimentel said.
Trillanes have expressed reservation in having the issue taken up by the blue ribbon in the wake of Gordon’s pronouncements that the issue is better handled in the House of Representatives considering the Duterte is an impeachable officer and the matter at hand could be an impeachable offense.
