Pinapayagan pa kasi! Poe: ‘Rolling coffin’ Dimple Star to blame for Mindoro crash

Senator Grace Poe said she is “enraged” at how bus company Dimple Star, involved in a deadly crash in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro on Wednesday (March 21), was still allowed to transport passengers when it had been involved in previous accidents.
“We gathered reports that there were previous accidents involving Dimple Star bus, which also resulted in fatalities,” Poe said in a statement, adding that the crash could have been prevented.
“The list of tragic road accidents and their casualties continue to increase because vehicles that are not roadworthy or even those we label as rolling coffins are still allowed to ply the roads with near impunity,” she said.
Poe, who chairs the Senate public services committee, is reiterating that her bill which seeks to create a National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), which she says is the “missing link” to accident prevention.
The NTSB will be solely responsible to look into transportation-related accidents on land, sea and air, including railways and pipeline systems, and determine their causes.
“There is a jumble of transport agencies, but there is no ‘go-to agency’ that will be able to unravel and explain major transportation accidents,” Poe said.
A bus took a 15-meter plunge into a cliff in Mindoro on Wednesday morning, leaving at least 19 dead and 21 others injured.
