Ping reveals real story behind Faeldon’s suspension of 800 importers; Nagkatarahan din
The 800-plus importers who were “suspended” by the Bureau of Customs under ex-Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon’s watch may have been shaken down and made to pay up to P80,000 to be reinstated.
Sen. Panfilo Lacson said Saturday this was the gist of information his office received, even as he noted Faeldon had the power to issue alert orders limited and centralized.
“Ang information na nasagap namin dito, nakuha namin rito, nagbayad ang bawa’t isang importer P30,000 to 80,000 para para maibalik. So shinakedown, sinuspend pagkatapos binalik din,” he said in an interview on DWIZ radio.
“So ang tatanungin natin, ilan sa 800 na sinasabi mo na pinagmamalaki mong sinuspindi mo mula noong ikaw na-appoint as commissioner, ilan naman ang bumalik? At bakit nabalik?” he added.
Lacson also pointed out only the Office of the Commissioner and the Command Center – a unit created by Faeldon but not part of the BOC’s permanent organizational structure – had the power to determine which container vans should pass through the green lane and be exempted from strict inspection.
