Ping skips Blue Ribbon hearing: Dahil naulit ang hindi dapat

Aug 15, 2017 @ 15:48

Sen. Panfilo Lacson skipped Tuesday’s hearing of the Senate Blue Ribbon committee on the smuggling of P6.4 billion worth of shabu from China – all because of the committee chairman’s bad habit.

For the second straight week, Blue Ribbon committee chairman Richard Gordon dominated the proceedings, denying Lacson his chance to direct questions to the resource persons.

Lacson, who was poised to reveal details of a list of suspected bagmen of top Customs officials, arrived at the session hall after an earlier hearing, but left shortly after – when it became clear he would have no chance to speak.

During the hearing, Gordon had hinted he would let Lacson ask his questions, when he told the resource persons to hurry up so Lacson can have his turn.

But when Lacson’s turn came, Gordon again turned the proceedings into a one-man show.

DZBB reporter Nimfa Ravelo tweeted:
Got several text msgs. Hinihintay na ang revelation ni Sen Lacson. Pumasok na po sa hearing but had to leave. Hindi makasingit sa hearing (https://twitter.com/nimfaravelo/status/897339508999340032).

On Monday, Lacson had said he would skip the first part of Tuesday’s hearing due to a 9 a.m. hearing on the bill updating the mandate of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.

But he also hinted another reason for skipping the early part of the hearing was because of the delay Gordon caused last week.

“Ilang beses ko kinalabit eh. Kinalabit ko, sabi ko, Chairman baka pwede mag-interject. (Sagot niya), Okay tapusin ko lang ito. After 45 minutes, kinalabit ko uli. Sige tapusin ko. Alas-dose na,” Lacson recalled, referring to last week’s hearing.
