Playing safe? Australia’s Turnbull ain’t choosing between US, China
Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull described China as a “very good friend.”
He made the remark during the visit of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.
“We have a staunch, strong ally in Washington, a good friend in Washington, and we have a very good friend in Beijing,” News.com.au, in an article published online on March 24, quoted Turnbull as telling reporters.
“The idea that Australia has to choose between China and the United States is not correct,” the prime minister said.
Turnbull considers having “very strong…but different” relationships with the US and China as a “great strength.”
