PNoy starts campaigning for opposition: Magsama-sama tayong ayaw kay Duterte!
Former President Benigno Aquino III has started campaigning for opposition candidates ahead of the 2019 midterm elections.
Aquino used the commemoration of his father’s 35th death anniversary on Tuesday (August 21) to rally supporters behind the opposition as he hit controversial policies of the administration such as the war on drugs.
“Kung sang-ayon ka sa takbo ng bansa ngayon, iboto mo ang kakampi ng administrasyon. Pero kung di ka sang-ayon, wag mo lang iboto ang ating mga kandidato; ikampanya niyo pa sila,” he said in a speech after a mass held for former senator Benigno Aquino Jr.’s death anniversary at the Sto. Domingo Church in Quezon City.
Aquino said having opposition politikos in power will strengthen the system of checks and balances in government.
This, he said, might prompt the administration to listen to what the public wants.
Aquino is the chairman emeritus of the Liberal Party, which will field a number of candidates in next year’s elections. Among its prospective bets are re-electionist Senator Paolo Benigno Aquino, former Quezon Representative Erin Tañada, Magdalo party-list Representative Gary Alejano, and former Akbayan party-list Representative Barry Gutierrez.
