Preposterous! Drilon refuses to dignify drug charges against him
Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon has refused to issue any statement on the plan of the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate claims that he was an alleged protector of drug lord Melvin Odicta Sr.
“It doesn’t even deserve any comment. It is so preposterous,” Drilon said.
The senator refused to entertain further questions from reporters concerning reported case build up being planned by the DOJ in the wake of the claims made by Ricky Serenio, a confessed bagman of the Berya drug cartel in Negros Region.
In his affidavit, Serenio accused Drilon and party mate in the Liberal Party (LP), former Interior Sec. Manuel “Mar” Roxas II of supposedly partnering with Odicta to control the illegal drugs business in the Western Visayas-Panay Region.
DOJ Sec. Vitaliano Aguirre II was quoted as saying that Serenio’s affidavit could be considered a formal complaint.
Drilon was out of the country when news about Serenio tagging him and Roxas with Odicta came out.
Roxas denied the allegations, even branding it as “fake news” and a product of Serenio’s imagination. Roxas said he had no dealings with the latter or even Odicta in the past.
“I have been and am anti-illegal drugs and the record of arrests, confiscations and buy bust operations by the PNP during my time at DILG will show this. Clearly, a poor and laughable attempt at fake news,” he said.
