Prevent another Marawi: JV says terrorism should be top on ASEAN agenda
Senator JV Ejercito said ASEAN member countries have to discuss the “threat of terrorism” during their summit next week to avoid another Marawi war.
The Philippines is set to host on November 13 to 14 the 31st ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Manila.
“It’s a worlwide concern. Sana ay mapag-usapan din ng maigi dahil kina-kailangan magtulong-tulong ang bawat bansa para masugpo o ma-neutralize ang threat of terrorism,” Ejercito said on Saturday.
“In fact, ‘pag resume ng budget (hearing) ng DILG (Department of Interior and Local Government), I would defend it,” he said in a radio interview.
He would propose to strengthen the counter-terrorism efforts of both the Phil. National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
“Kasi ayaw ko na maulit na muli ang isa pang Marawi. And iyung Marawi rebellion is a proof of ‘clear and present danger’ na ang terorismo ay talagang nasa ating bansa na,” he added.
