Probe on MRT commuters’ woes can wait: Abaya can’t attend Senate hearing because he’s on family vacay
Senator Grace Poe said that former Transportation Secretary Joseph Abaya won’t be able to attend the Senate hearing on the anomalous purchase of 48 coaches worth P3.8 billion that could not be used for the Metro Rail Transit 3 (MRT-3).
In an interview with DZBB’s Nimfa Ravelo, Poe said that Abaya had reached out to her after she warned that he would be issued a subpoena if he failed to appear in the May 18 hearing.
Abaya’s family vacation would start on May 16.
Poe gave Abaya a pass but she told him that he must appear in the next hearing, scheduled on May 23, together with incumbent Transportation Secretary Art Tugade.
Tugade is claiming that he was misled by Abaya that the new trains from Dalian, China could not be used because the trains’ signaling system was not compatible with signaling system used by the MRT 3 .
