Push niyo yan! Bautista to abide by rules after House impeaches him

Commission on Elections chairman Andres Bautista appears to be unfazed even after the House of Representatives voted to impeach him.

In a statement Wednesday (October 11), Bautista said he acknowledges all House members are entitled to their own opinion.

“While it may be an unnecessary move since I already tendered my resignation to the President today effective end of the year to ensure a smooth transition, I will abide by the Constitution and the relevant rules regarding the impeachment process,” he said.

He, however, said it was “unfortunate” that the House, voting 137-75 with two abstentions, voted against the motion of Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas to adopt the Committee on Justice’s report dismissing the impeachment complaint against him.

The justice committee is expected to prepare the articles of impeachment against Bautista so it could be submitted to the Senate for trial.
