Pwede namang maghiwalay: Palace says breakup within PDP-Laban possible if row ain’t fixed after September meet
Some people may have to leave the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) if the leadership row involving two factions of the party isn’t resolved by September, Malacañang admitted Friday (August 10).
In a radio interview, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said President Rodrigo Duterte will hold another meeting with the groups led by Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III and abogado Rogelio Garcia next month.
“I think sa Setyembre magpupulong uli; tapos kung talagang hindi kakayaning magkasundo ay puwede naman pong maghiwa-hiwalay,” he said.
Asked if the leadership row between Pimentel and Garcia was resolved when they met with the President separately Thursday (August 9), Roque did not give a direct answer.
“Magkakaroon po ng pangalawang pagpupulong,” he said.
Duterte met with the groups of Pimentel and Garcia in a bid to iron out their differences ahead of the filing of certificates of candidacy for the 2019 polls in October.
Last month, Garcia’s supporters elected him as PDP-Laban’s president in a national assembly held in Quezon City.
Pimentel, however, said the event was not sanctioned by the party so the election results were invalid.
