Quiet! Sotto says senators shouldn’t comment on impeachment case vs. Duterte

Mar 16, 2017 @ 18:56

Senate Majority Vicente Sotto III did not hide his disappointment at some of his colleagues who issued their reactions on the filing of an impeachment complaint against President Duterte at the House of Representatives.

“We’re not supposed to comment. In case it reaches the Senate, we will be an impeachment court and therefore should not be biased,” he said.

Several senators have already given their two cents on the impeachment complaint filed by Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano, with some criticizing the move while other said the process should be respected.

So far, only Sotto and Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero have refused to dwell on the issue.

In a separate text message to reporters, Escudero begged off from commenting saying that it may constitute a pre-judgment on his part, in case it reaches the Senate.

“That is the prerogative of every congressman and rests within the sole jurisdiction and discretion of the House of Representatives. Inter-chamber courtesy dictates nothing less,” he said.
