RCBC EVP Mike De Jesus is PhilHealth’s new CEO: Days of glory ahead… or is it gloom?
Michael De Jesus, Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation’s (RCBC) Executive Vice President and Head of National Corporate Banking, has been appointed as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of he Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), Politiko has learned.
While Malacañang has yet to release De Jesus’ appointment papers, he already made his presence known at the agency by attending its board meeting last week.
Politiko’s sources said President Rodrigo Duterte’s marching order to De Jesus was to ensure will not collapse during his term, or until 2022.
PhilHealth employees, however, are unhappy about De Jesus’ appointment despite his background as a banker.
They’re most concerned about his lack of experience in health insurance and his stint at RCBC, which was involved in the heist of $81 million from the Bangladesh central bank’s account at the New York Federal Reserve.
De Jesus’ appointment to Philhealth raised some eyebrows in Duterte’s circle since he is reportedly a classmate of former President Benigno Aquino III.
However, his brother, John, works for Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez while his girlfriend, Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz, is known to be close to former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
