Recto hails Duterte as ‘teacher-in-chief’ for approving free SUC tuition
Senator Ralph Recto on Friday lauded President Rodrigo Duterte, whom he described as the country’s “teacher-in-chief,” for signing into law the free college tuition bill.
The Senate President Pro-Tempore said the Universal Access to Tertiary Education Act occupies a place among “landmark social legislations.”
“If a teacher affects eternity, so does a president who removes obstacles to learning,” Recto said.
“By signing the law, he is in effect lecturing the nation that we should not just build, build, build for the sake of our future, but also teach, teach, teach our youth,” he said.
The free tertiary education law will benefit around 865,000 students in 436 state universities and colleges (SUCs), including satellite campuses nationwide.
