Reresbak ako para sa inyo! Duterte assures barangay chiefs of support in fight vs. crime
President Rodrigo Duterte has vowed to take up the cudgels for barangay captains should their lives be put in danger in fighting criminality and illegal drugs.
In a speech before newly elected barangay captains in Pampanga Tuesday (June 12), Duterte assured them of support in doing their job.
‘Pag nakita ko na talagang lumalaban ka, you do not only have the Philippine National Police, the military, but me and the Secretary will see you through. Hindi ko kayo pababayaan,” he said.
“At kung sakali man — kung sakali man, I don’t know, at kayo’y madisgrasya, magtatanong ako. Magtatanong ako at re-resbak ako. Tandaan ninyo ‘yan. ‘Pag kayo ang nadisgrasya diyan sa anti-drug, anti-criminality, magtatanong ako and hindi ako magpa-lugi,” Duterte added.
The President said he will consider arming barangay captains to aid in the performance of their duty, subject to the evaluation of the police and the intelligence community.
Duterte earlier said he will consult with Interior officer in charge Eduardo Año and other Cabinet officials regarding the need to arm barangay captains.
