Risa Hontiveros supports CBCP campaign vs drug killings
Senator Risa Hontiveros on Friday called on the public to continue seeking justice on behalf of those who have been unjustly slain under the government’s war on drugs.
Even if the government has suspended Oplan Tokhang, those responsible in the so-called extrajudicial killings of drug personalities need to he held accounted for, for the upholding of the rule of law and prevention of future killings, she said.
“I express my full support for the tolling of the bells activity led by the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) as we continue to pray and seek justice for all the victims of EJKs,” Hontiveros said.
“I also encourage citizens to join our local parish churches every 8 p.m. when our own bells are tolled. Let us continue to defend democracy and civil liberties, both collectively and individually and pray that even as we seek justice for the victims and their families, that a genuine spirit of truth and justice comes alive,” she said.
Even if President Duterte already issued directives to have the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) lead the anti-drug campaign, Hontiveros said there’s still the need to radically overhaul the country’s security forces by cleansing it of so-called scalawags.
This is to ensure that the anti-drug campaign will not continue to be bloody, abusive and prone to corruption, she said.
