Robredo hopes Marcoses sincere in offer to return ill-gotten wealth: Sana totoo at buo!
Vice President Leni Robredo is hoping that the family of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos is sincere in the desire to return the ill-gotten wealth they amassed during his presidency.
Facing reporters in Baguio City Wednesday (August 30), Robredo said the Marcoses’ offer to return some of their wealth, as revealed by President Rodrigo Duterte, raises a few questions.
“Iyong una, siguro iyong tanong: Is that an admission? Is that an admission na talagang mayroong ill-gotten wealth? Pangalawa, kung sincere, tingin ko dapat sana matagal na itong ginawa,” she said.
While it is never too late for the Marcoses to return the money they stole from Filipinos, Robredo said they must give back to the country everything they did not legally acquire.
“Saka kung may ibabalik, hindi lang noon pa, pero dapat lahat. Lahat na ill-gotten kailangang ibalik, kasi pag-aari ito ng mga Pilipino,” she said.
Asked if she believes the Marcoses are sincere in their offer, Robredo said: “Ang makakapagsabi kasi sila lang. Iyong tayo naman, narinig lang natin sa balita, kaya hindi first-hand iyong ating information. Sana totoo. Pero sana bilisan, sana buo.”
Duterte said an emissary of the Marcoses have talked to him to relay their willingness to return some of their wealth, including a few gold bars.
Citing information from the unnamed emissary, the President said the Marcos patriarch only amassed the wealth for the country’s sake because there was a time when the economy faced tough times under his rule.
