Robredo insists victory was legit: If LP cheated, Mar should be president
Vice President Leni Robredo maintained that she won fair and square in the 2016 polls amid the ongoing manual recount of votes in the vice presidential race.
In a speech at the 53rd annual membership meeting of the Philippine Bible Society in Manila Saturday (April 21), Robredo said she was shocked that she’s being portrayed as the “cheater” in the manual recount.
“It’s as if I have the capacity to do that. ‘Di ba? Kung mandadaya, bakit hindi iyong president— Kung partido ko iyong mandadaya for me, bakit ako iyong ipapanalo, na wala namang, ‘di ba, wala namang masyadong weight sa atin iyong vice president kaysa presidente?” she said.
Robredo won over former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. with over 200,000 votes. Her running mate, former senator Mar Roxas, placed second to President Rodrigo Duterte.
Roxas, however, got nearly 10 million voted while Duterte got 16.6 million votes.
Robredo said that while she tried to ignore fake news about her when the protest started, she could no longer let it pass.
“So right now, iba na iyong tactic, we try to correct fake news—and there are still so many. And I wish that sana mula sa umpisa kinorrect na namin… Baligtad iyong nangyari: dahil hindi mo pinansin, iyong kasinungalingan, naging totoo na,” she said.
