Robredo no-show at Vin d’honneur after Palace withdraws invitation
Vice President Leni Robredo was absent at the Vin d’honneur hosted by President Rodrigo Duterte Wednesday morning (Jan. 11) because Malacañang retracted the invitation it extended to her late last year, her spokesperson said.
In a statement, Georgina Hernandez said the Office of the Vice President received an invitation to the Vin d’honneur via e-mail last December 28.
“On January 4, Malacañang called the Office to retract the invitation, stating that the guest list was limited,” she said.
The Vin d’honneur is an event hosted by the President for foreign diplomats twice a year.
The Vice President’s lone public engagement for the day is the Chinese General Hospital Medical Center Residents’ graduation in San Juan City at 7 p.m., where she will be the guest speaker.
The relationship between Duterte and Robredo reached a new low point after the President accused her of joining rallies calling for her ouster.
Duterte said Robredo’s association with parties allegedly planning to unseat him was a reason why he didn’t want her to be part of his Cabinet anymore.
The Vice President resigned as chair of the Housing and Urban Development and Coordinating Council in the early part of December 2016 after being told to stop attending Cabinet meetings.
Aside from Robredo, other prominent personalities who were absent at the Vin d’honneur were House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez and Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno.
