Robredo welcomes ‘friendly’ dinner with Duterte: Para sa bayan, susubukan!
Vice President Leni Robredo has expressed openness to have dinner with President Rodrigo Duterte despite their differences and the controversial issue of impeachment hanging over their heads.
In an interview with Ted Failon over dzMM Tuesday (March 28), Robredo shared that Duterte asked her to have dinner with him and his family when they met at the graduation rites of the Philippine National Police Academy “Masidlak” Class of 2017 in Cavite last week.
“Sinabi ng pangulo, ‘Bakit hindi tayo mag-dinner?’ Ang sinasabi niya, mas friendly dinner ito,” she recalled.
Robredo said she is open to accepting the invitation from the President for the country’s sake.
“Bukas po ako sa dinner na iyon. Kahit maraming mga bagay na hindi natin napagkakasunduan, basta para sa bayan, susubukan,” she said.
As the country’s top two elected officials, the Vice President said it is imperative that she and Duterte find a way to work together even if they disagree on certain issues.
Duterte’s relationship with Robredo has become strained since he suspected her of working with groups supposedly planning to oust him from power. The Vice President has denied any involvement in such plots.
During their meeting in Cavite, Robredo said Duterte assured her that he has nothing to do with the impeachment complaint that a group of lawyers and professors plan to file against her in May.
In response, the Vice President said she, too, has no hand in the impeachment complaint filed by Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano against Duterte earlier this month.
