Rockstar reception: Tagle attracts SRO crowd during papal visit to US
Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle’s charisma seems to transcend nationalities if the warm reception he got during Pope Francis’ recent visit to the US was any indication.
In her Philippine Star column, lifestyle editor Joanne Rae Ramirez shared that her sister Geraldine was astounded by the blockbuster crowd which attended Tagle’s talk at the World Meeting of Families, which was held at the same time the pontiff was in the US.
“He (Tagle) was a speaker at the World Meeting of Families. His talks were standing room only. The Mass he held at the Our Lady of Hope Parish in Philadelphia saw its largest crowd of attendees probably ever of the Filipino community,” Ramirez said.
Most surprisingly, she said Tagle “was one of the handful of Cardinals” who was personally approached and greeted by Pope Francis during the Papal Mass at St. Charles Borromeo seminary.
Tagle and Pope Francis are known to be close friends, having worked together in a commission at the Vatican before the Argentinian priest became the leader of the Roman Catholic Church.
