In Russia I trust: Duterte’s courage swells aboard Varyag
President Rodrigo Duterte’s confidence got a boost as he went aboard the Russian guided missile cruiser “Varyag” on Friday (April 21) for a tour.
While posing for a photo with the Russians, Duterte said: “The Russians are with me, I shall not be afraid.”
Duterte has sought to strengthen bilateral ties with Russia since he assumed office last year. He is scheduled to visit Moscow in May.
The President was accorded arrival honors by the Russian Navy Contingent upon his arrival at the Port of Manila’s Pier 15.
Duterte was accompanied in his tour of the Russian vessel by National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon and Department of Foreign Affairs acting Secretary Enrique Manalo.
The Varyag features a long-range anti-aircraft missile rocket system, a long distance anti-ship missile and anti-aircraft carrier.
