SAF 44 families to boycott Mamasapano trial vs PNoy
As a sign of protest against the Office of the Ombudsman, the families of the slain 44 Police Special Action Force (SAF) plan to boycott proceedings at the Sandiganbayan over the charges filed against President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.
“As a sign of disgust and protest, the SAF 44 parents and the VACC (Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption) will not participate in the sham proceedings initiated by Ombudsman before the Sandiganbayan,” said lawyer Ferdinand Topacio, the legal counsel of the families.
“ Instead, we shall continue to pursue the attainment of justice for the 44 heroes,” he stressed.
The Ombudsman has charged Aquino before the Sandiganbayan for having committed graft and usurpation of authority in connection of the deaths of the SAF 44 during a botched operation Mamasapano, Maguinadanao in 2015.
Topacio pointed out what the families filed before the Ombudsman was 44 counts of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide against Aquino and should be the charges filed at the Sandiganbayan.
Meanwhile, a petition has been filed before the Supreme Court (SC) seeking to have the Ombudsman file before the Sandiganbayan the 44 counts of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide.
