Sagot ko kayo! Duterte assures pardon for cops in Parojinog, Espinosa slays
President Rodrigo Duterte has vowed to provide legal protection to the cops involved in the killing of Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa and Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr.
In a speech at the police service’s 116th anniversary Wednesday (August 9) in Camp Crame, Duterte said he will pardon the policemen if they were found guilty of murder.
“There is a trial, convicted, sentenced and — that’s the last step, and there is the President. And after the trial, if I still find out, with all the cross-examinations and all of things, if they are really innocent, I will pardon them immediately after,” he said.
“To all those… The police chief of — who supervised the killing of Parojinog and Marcos who was — who is being prosecuted now, they will have my protection. Not to disrupt justice. I will allow justice to run,” the President added.
Duterte said he will protect the policemen because they are his subordinates.
Ozamiz City police chief Jovie Espenido led the police team which raided Parojinog’s residence on July 30. The mayor was killed in the operation.
Espenido was also the police commander of Albuera when Espinosa was killed inside the subprovincial jail in Baybay City in November 2016.
Police claimed the mayor engaged in a shootout when police came to serve him a search warrant.
The head of the police operation in Albuera was Senior Supt. Marvin Marcos, who has since been appointed as head of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in SOCCKSARGEN.
