Sali kami! JV bats for coalition with PDP for 2019 Senate run
By Xave Gregorio
Senator JV Ejercito is eyeing a coalition with ruling party PDP-Laban for the 2019 elections.
Ejercito said he and other administration senators would rather form a coalition with PDP-Laban than formally jump ship to the ruling party.
“Marami doon sa members sa majority have their own parties,” Ejercito explained.
Ejercito said among the senators in the majority, Senators Grace Poe, Sonny Angara, Nancy Binay, Koko Pimentel, Cynthia Villar and him are gunning for re-election.
Ejercito is with Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino, the party of his father, former President Joseph Estrada.
Meanwhile, Angara is the chair of Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino, which split from PDP-Laban in 1988. Villar and Binay are also chairs of the Nacionalista Party and United Nationalist Alliance, respectively. Poe has no formal political affiliations, but has been adopted by the Nationalist People’s Coalition and Aksyon Demokratiko.
“Sana lang magkaroon na lang ng coalition. Doesn’t necessarily mean na have to be kami po na we have to swear into PDP. Because we have already proven that we are supportive of the programs,” Ejercito said.
However, the senator added that he has gotten the green light from his father to join PDP-Laban if needed.
