Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo on Friday held his first press briefing as spokesperson with members of the press corps in Malacanang.
“This is more of, not a news briefing, but a courtesy appearance to all of you as a sign of respect and friendship to everybody,” Panelo said.
According to the top government lawyer, he was designated presidential spokesperson pursuant to an October 11 memorandum signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.
“In compliance with the instructions of the President, and to ensure the continuous and effective delivery of public service, you are hereby designated PRESIDENTIAL SPOKESPERSON, effective immediately,” the memorandum read.
Panelo took over the post of Harry Roque Jr., who reportedly resigned as presidential mouthpiece.
