Sanay na kasi: Gringo gamely posed for mug shots in third arrest in 30 years
Senator Gringo Honasan has been slapped with his third warrant of arrest in the last 30 years.
This time, Honasan gladly posed for mugshots instead of running away like he did in two previous occasions.
Honasan, a member of the Philipine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1971, was first ordered arrested after leading a 1987 coup attempt against then president Corazon Aquino .
Honasan was later captured and imprisoned on a Navy ship in Manila Bay but managed to escape with the help of his guards who became sympathetic with his cause.
Honasan became a fugitive in 2006 when he allegedly masterminded a coup plot against then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. He was arrested in November 2006 after 8 months of hiding from authorities.
On Friday, Honasan voluntarily surrender to the Biñan police rather than go straight to the Sandiganbayan to post bail. This was just a day after he was issued an arrest warrant for his alleged involvement in the P10 billion pork barrel fund scam.
Honasan, chair of the Senate Committee on National Defense and Security, on Thursday maintained that he was “completely innocent” of the charges against him.
“All my life I have fought everything I am accused of, and I will continue to do so,” Honasan said in a statement following his order of arrest.
He ran as vice president in the May 2016 national elections but lost to then Rep. Leni Robredo
