Ako ang huhusga! PNoy’s appointee won’t inhibit from his Sandiganbayan trial
Even though she get appointed to her current post by former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino, Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang will not inhibit herself from handling the case against the former chief executive.
“The court will never shirk from its responsibility to dispense justice,” she said on Friday (November 10).
“There are legal grounds for inhibition and having been appointed by the accused before is not one of the legal grounds for inhibition,” Tang explained.
Tang made the statement after the graft and usurpation charges against Aquino was raffled also on Friday to the Sandiganbayan 3rd Division which she chairs.
The Office of the Ombudsman filed on November 8 graft and usurpation of authority charges against Aquino in connection with his alleged involvement in the deaths of 44 members of the Police Special Action Force (SAF) in Mamasapano, Maguindanao in 2015.
Also named as his co-accused are former Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Alan Purisima and former SAF Director Getulio Napeñas.
