Sandra Cam gearing up to head PCSO. But will PMAers let her?
Former whistleblower Sandra Cam is being eyed by President Rodrigo Duterte as the new chairperson of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, Politiko has learned.
However, her appointment is being opposed by police and military generals who are naturally loyal to incumbent PCSO chair Jose Jorge Corpuz, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1982.
Cam’s bid to head the PCSO is also hurt by her closeness to gambling tycoon Charlie “Atong” Ang.
Her appointment is seen to benefit Ang, whose business has taken a beating from the reforms initiated by Corpuz and PCSO General Manager and former Marine Major Gen. Alexander Balutan.
Ang is the owner of Meridien Vista Gaming Corporation (MVGC), which has jai alai operations within the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority.
The CA recently ordered MVGC to stop operations after reports about massive losses in the small town lotteries operated by the PCSO in North Cagayan.
