Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano will be running as representative of the second district of Taguig City, President Rodrigo Duterte announced.
Cayetano will replace his sister incumbent Rep. Pia Cayetano, who is joining next year’s senatorial race.
“Alan Peter Cayetano is also running. And si Mamondiong sa TESDA is also running. Si — I don’t know about the others. I’m not sure. I’m not in position to state with certainty. So I might not as well — just keep it in the meantime. Let them do their announcements,” Duterte told members of the Malacañang Press Corps on Tuesday.
The chief executive said he already has a “name” who would replace Cayetano, but the secretary “did not authorize me to name him now.”
In May 2017, Cayetano, who was Duterte’s vice presidential running mate in the 2016 elections, resigned as a senator following his appointment as secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs.
