Sayang effort! Calida doesn’t want Morales impeached
Solicitor General Jose Calida believes it is pointless to file an impeachment complaint against Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales.
“Considering that she’s retiring of service this July, the time is too short for that kind of legal proceeding,” he pointed out.
Recently, Calida criticized Morales for hiding the results of her office’s investigation over the alleged hidden wealth and undeclared bank accounts of President Rodrigo Duterte.
“Ombudsman Carpio-Morales, being the Ombudsman, must be the protector of the people,” he had said.
“She has the constitutional duty to publicize matters covered by investigations when the circumstances so warrant and with due prudence,” he added.
The case stemmed from the criminal complaint filed by Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV before the Office of the Ombudsman on May 5, 2016 in the hopes of derailing the chances of Duterte from winning the presidential elections.
Trillanes alleged in his complaint Duterte kept ghost employees from Davao City which may have funded his P2.4 billion worth of deposits.
Calida said he wrote the Office of the Ombudsman about the status of the case and received a reply from Overall Deputy Ombudsman Melchor Arthur Carandang that it is already been “closed and terminated” upon the approval of Deputy Ombudsman Cyril Ramos on November 29.
